Review methodology
Our testing team follows the same sequence for every fan review. We order each product at retail, log the SKU and intake date, and open the packaging on camera.
1. Packaging and fit checks
We photograph the box, accessories, and port layout. We check clip mounts on desks, shelves, and strollers; neckbands on three collar sizes; and desk stands on slippery and carpeted surfaces. We note assembly time and any missing parts.
2. Airflow and noise
In our climate room, we measure airflow at 1 m, 2 m, and 3 m with a calibrated anemometer. We record noise at five speed settings with a sound-level meter set 30 cm from the front grille. We repeat each measurement three times and average the results.
3. Battery and charging
We discharge each fan under a 2.5 W load and record runtime to the minute. We test charging with the included cable and a 20 W USB-C charger, then note charge time and pass-through behavior.
4. Agent timing
Our research editor times agent-assisted shopping queries to see how long it takes to find the exact model number, price, and stock status. We flag mismatched listings before review.
5. Comparison tables
We build comparison tables with airflow, noise, runtime, charge time, weight, and price. Tables are updated when a manufacturer changes a model.
6. Scoring
We assign a five-point score after all data is checked. 5 is excellent, 4 is good, 3 is adequate, 2 is poor, and 1 is very poor. Hands-on scores use the full 1 to 5 scale. Scores are written as X / 5.
Records and comparison limits
Noise readings identify the speed setting, meter distance and background conditions. Runtime notes identify the 2.5 W load and the stop condition used; rechargeable and mains-powered models are compared only on applicable criteria.
